A well-written post, Erin, not at all rant-like. Dr. Surprise's mostly insightful treatment of zombie and vampire falls a bit short at points. Deep symbolism can be hard to analyze comprehensively. Vampires are putatively invisible in mirrors. That in us which egoistically wants perpetual life by draining life from others hides from self-reflection and daylight. Zombies have no will but that of the “black voudoin” who raises and empowers them to serve a dark purpose.
