2009 marked the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Godfather of Goth, Edgar Allen Poe, or just plain Edgar Poe as he was christened and as we like to call him. Edgar was born on a cold January day in 1809 and he died in October, 40 years later. We love him because of his creepy short stories and poems, because he loved to wear black and because he was an orphan. He married his cousin, Virginia, when she was 13, and that is kind of creepy as well. On January 19, 2010, he would have been 201 years old.
