Southern Voodoo

I’ve been silently slinking around in the South picking up the scent of fine things and here’s my double secret: Voodoo Tiki Bar & Lounge in Charleston. Get that island magic in a town where the sea breeze knocks out the mo-skeetos and no-see-ums … most of the time. It gets super reviews on Yelp and, anyway, who can say “no” to a Lobster Corn Dog, Teryaki Spam Kebab, Cheeseburger Spring Rolls or Cashew Encrusted Tuna Satay. See what I mean? Seriously hip … but if you haven’t embraced spam and other organ meats, you won’t know what I’m talking about (more about that later). There’s a Happy Hour from 4-7pm Monday through Friday. The ultra-killer clincher: They are up to their dreads in jazz. I think you catch Quentin Baxter, jazz percussionist and musical director of the Charleston Jazz Initiative, The Charlton Singleton Brass Band and some other amazing performers playing here.

Hi Erin – you did it again, zuper zombee, you discovered more fabulous places that zombies are sure to go (well, at least get drunk!). You slayed me with the food choices – almost got an airline ticket to Charleston just to eat some CASHEW ENCRUSTED TUNA SATAYS settled for some vegetarian gumbo instead. Where you going next? Wherever it is – keep these snappy posts coming!
