Dead Love: Zombies Love Brain JELL-O

Is JELL-O the ultimate brain food? The answer is YES, if you follow this recipe from one of my favorite undead darlings, Central Valley Horror Club founder Kaci Hansen. Kaci is the perfect zombie “head chef.”

What I love best about this recipe: It comes out of a box. Zombies, you know what I’m talking about. So whip up a little brain JELL-O. Have a party. It’s the next best thing to fresh.

Kaci’s Gelatin Brain Recipe

2 1/2 cup of boiling water
2 large OR 4 small boxes of JELL-O
1 cup of cold milk
1 small box of instant pudding

Stir boiling water into gelatin mix. Stir for about 2 minutes, until completely dissolved; cool to room temperature (takes about 30 minutes – DO NOT REFRIGERATE YET).

In a separate bowl, pour milk into mixing bowl. Add pudding mix, and beat with wire whisk until well blended, about 2 minutes. Quickly pour pudding into room-temperature gelatin, and stir with wire whisk until well blended.

Lightly spray brain mold with cooking spray, or rub lightly with oil. Pour gelatin/pudding mixture into mold. If your brain mold does not sit level in the refrigerator, place your mold into a bowl, with kitchen towels to hold it steady. Refrigerate until firm, about 3 hours.

To unmold your brain, lightly moisten a well-chilled plate or platter with a bit of water. Shake mold gently to loosen brain from mold. If it doesn’t come loose easily, gently pull sides away with damp fingertips. Invert onto plate and serve.

This recipe can be made with an assortment of flavors. A favorite of mine is rapsberry gelatin with cheesecake pudding. #####
